3 Tips For Sprucing Up Your Yard

Posted on

Landscape designing is not just about increasing your home's curb appeal. It is also about creating a pleasant outdoors experience for you and your family. If you are looking for ways to spruce up your yard, here are some tips to help you accomplish your goal.

Mix It Up

When designing your landscape, it is important to use contrasts. For instance, instead of placing items in your yard that are about the same height, mix it up. Use rocks, bushes, shrubs, trees, and other items to add variety to the height.

You also need to avoid using just one or two colors to decorate your yard. It can make your yard appear boring. The addition of color can help break up the various areas of your yard and give visitors more to see. It can also draw attention to points of interest, such as a fountain.

Make sure the colors you do choose work well together. Avoid adding too much color though. It can be distracting and take away from the beauty of your home.

Skip The Symmetry

Symmetry throughout a yard can be nice to look at, but it can be difficult to maintain. For instance, if you plant two identical shrubs and one dies later, you could have trouble finding a shrub that mirrors the other one. You could end up replacing both shrubs or with two mismatched shrubs.

To avoid this, skip the symmetry altogether when it comes to the greenery in your yard. You need to instead focus on creating a look that is easy to maintain and that has components that can be easily replaced down the road, if necessary.

Don't Forget A Focal Point

Many landscape design ideas have become outdated, but the concept of ensuring that a yard has a focal point still stands. A focal point helps to put your overall design into perspective. Without a focal point, your yard can look like nothing more than a collection of greenery.

Creating a focal point is not overly complicated. It can be as simple as the addition of a fountain or yard art. Whatever you choose for the art, be sure to arrange the greenery around it so that it complements it instead of conflicts with it.

There are many other ways you can improve your yard's appearance. Consult with a landscaper to find a specific landscape design that would work for your unique space.
